Staying on top of things.

This blog is created as a way to stay on top of the learning throughout the year and as a way to discuss various topics that will arise as you learn. I hope that you find this blog useful as a way of checking in on what you have missed while you were away and double-checking on the information that we will cover in the class.

An important note: It is YOUR responsibility to catch up on missed work and assignments through this blog. Therefore, I will expect that you will be prepared and ready for all activities and the work assigned will be completed on time. It is really important to stay on top of your work so we can be motivated, responsible members of the class.

Also, feel free to offer up your comments on lessons, activities, etc. as you like. It is important that you can comfortably offer up any feedback that will help create memorable learning experiences. Your voice is important.

D - SS 10 > Treaties

The class was put into groups to analyze different treaties that were created by the Canadian government back in the late 1800's.  Below are a list of helpful sites to assist in completing the Treaty chart and questions.

Helpful sites:

- Students can use the internet and textbook to find their information.

    http://gov.bc.ca/arr/firstnation/treaty_8/default.htm

Other questions to answer when completing the activity:
Why did Aboriginal Peoples sign treaties?
Why did the federal government want aboriginal peoples to sign treaties?
How did this change the status of Aboriginal in Canada?

Next class, finish the first column of the chart.

  1. Something new I learned about treaties: The treaties can be very unfair.

    Question I have:
Why can the government take its promises away in the blink of an eye.

  2. I learned that for the native peoples, these treaties became a new level of unfair, they were completely shafted, they received barely any money and ended up losing land.
I would like to know why the first Nations people signed the treaties anyway, I know that they thought it was being given not taken, but still.
